Autumn Family Photos at Lake Yamanakako|A Calm Day After the Rain

A quiet autumn day at Lake Yamanakako

Lake Yamanakako is one of the Fuji Five Lakes, known for wide open views and beautiful autumn colors.
On this day, the family originally hoped to take photos with Mt. Fuji in the background.
However, it began to rain just before our meeting time, so we decided to delay the session by one hour.

Just before we started, the rain stopped completely.
Mt. Fuji did not appear, but the timing gave us something special:
a usually crowded park that became completely empty.
The autumn leaves were at their peak, and the quiet atmosphere made the park feel like we had it all to ourselves.

A family of five full of energy

The family consisted of a father, mother, and three boys—
a pair of third-grade twins and their energetic younger brother.

They were excited from the moment they arrived.
We took photos while they ran through the open space, climbed on benches, balanced on stone posts, and explored the small slopes around the park.
Because the park was empty, the boys could move freely without worry.

Their laughter echoed across the quiet lakeside.
The parents were warm and encouraging, joining in and helping create a fun mood.
Thanks to their support, the children stayed relaxed and full of smiles throughout the session.

Making use of the surroundings

Even without Mt. Fuji, the scenery was beautiful in a different way.

We used:

  • the vivid red and yellow autumn leaves
  • the gentle slopes with natural depth
  • the lakeside paths
  • the empty benches and stone posts
  • the calm surface of Lake Yamanakako

The boys enjoyed each spot as if it were a playground, and I photographed them while they played.
These natural moments often become the most memorable photos.

A peaceful atmosphere after the rain

The soft light after rainfall made the colors richer.
The wet leaves on the ground reflected the colors of the trees above, and the air felt clear and fresh.

Because there were no other visitors,
the family could enjoy the space at their own pace—
walking slowly, taking breaks, and choosing spots that felt comfortable.

Sessions like this remind me how beautiful Japan can be in autumn, even when the weather changes suddenly.

Planning your own visit

Autumn around Lake Yamanakako is best from late October to mid-November.
Some days Mt. Fuji is hidden by clouds, but even then the lakeside offers calm scenery and plenty of space for families.

If you are planning photos in this area, I can suggest locations depending on the season and weather.
We can also adjust the start time if rain is expected, just as we did on this day.

Feel free to contact me if you would like help planning a relaxed and enjoyable session in the Fuji Five Lakes area.
