Day Trip to Omiya from Tokyo|Hikawa Shrine, Park & Bonsai Town

Omiya: A calm and gentle day trip from Tokyo

Omiya is about 30 minutes from central Tokyo.
It is a place where you can enjoy a quiet shrine, a large park, and a small bonsai town—all close to each other.
I often walk around this area when I’m not working, and I like its relaxed atmosphere.

Hikawa Shrine

Hikawa Shrine has a long history and very spacious grounds.
There is a spring-fed pond, tall trees, and paths that are easy to walk even for small children.
The large torii gates and wooden buildings make it a peaceful place to slow down and enjoy traditional Japan.

Omiya Park

Omiya Park is next to the shrine.
It is famous for cherry blossoms in spring and is a nice place for a simple walk at any time of year.
Inside the park, there is a free zoo and a small amusement park with rides for young children.
Families can also rent a boat and enjoy the view from the pond.

Bonsai Town

A short walk from the park takes you to Bonsai Town.
There are several bonsai gardens and a museum where you can learn how bonsai are grown and cared for.
This neighborhood has become popular among overseas visitors who enjoy Japanese culture in a quiet way.

Access

Tokyo Station → Omiya Station: JR Takasaki Line, about 35 minutes

・Shinjuku Station → Omiya Station: JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line, about 31 minutes

・Omiya Station → Hikawa Shrine: 1 station on the Tobu Urban Park Line or a 10-minute walk

Everything is close together, so it’s easy to see several places in one trip.

If you are planning a visit

I work mainly in Tokyo, photographing families and couples during their travels.
When I guide people around Omiya, I choose spots with calm backgrounds and natural light so everyone can relax.
Children often start talking about their favorite toys or the snack they ate on the train, and I quietly capture those natural moments.

Many visitors focus on central Tokyo, but Omiya offers a quieter experience with shrines, parks, and bonsai all in one area.
It is an easy day trip and enjoyable for families of all ages.
