Even though it requires a short train ride, making a day trip out of it is highly recommended. You get to combine treasure hunting with exploring stunning temple grounds and seasonal nature—giving your family a rich, authentic experience away from the tourist crowds.

Affordable Vintage Yukata & Kimono for Kids
One of the best highlights for families is the abundance of affordable vintage kids’ yukata and kimono. You can find beautiful traditional clothing at incredibly reasonable prices. Not only do they make the perfect souvenir to take home, but purchasing a cute yukata here and wearing it for your family photoshoot in Tokyo is also a fantastic way to create lifelong memories!

The market is a paradise for treasure hunting, offering unique items with real stories. During my visit today, I fell in love with a traditional straw horse doll crafted in Chichibu—which happens to be my father’s hometown, and since I was born in the Year of the Horse, it felt like absolute destiny!
I also found some incredible, lightweight souvenirs that won’t take up bulk in your suitcase:
- Kimono Fabric Scraps: I picked up several gorgeous pieces for only 100 yen (less than a dollar!) each, perfect for DIY crafts or framing as authentic wall art.
- Furoshiki (Wrapping Cloths): These beautiful cloths double as chic, eco-friendly reusable bags depending on how you knot them. They make the ultimate compact gift for friends back home.

What makes Takahata Fudoson truly special is that it’s an “all-in-one” experience. Beyond the market, you can explore the magnificent five-story pagoda and the historic temple grounds. Depending on the season, you can also admire stunning hydrangeas in June or vibrant autumn leaves in late November. It’s the perfect place to experience both Japanese culture and nature in one single day.
